incluD-ed presents its advocacy work on inclusive education at the EASPD Annual Conference in Salzburg

Carla Bonino, Transnational Cooperation Coordinator, European Affairs Unit, Fundación ONCE, together with Annett Räbel, incluD-ed Technical Secretariat, represented the European Network of Inclusive Education & Disability, incluD-ed, at the EASPD Annual Conference under the theme “Inclusive teaching programmes : Let’s develop it together!” organized by EASPD on the 22-23 October 2015 in Salzburg, Austria.
incluD-ed had been invited to participate in a policy panel on “How to move forward on inclusive education in Europe?”so to give concrete recommendations for different level of authorities – policy makers but also the school administrations and the classroom. The conference presented itself as an important opportunity for the incluD-ed network to present its recent activities and work in advocacy as well as to network with participants from all over Europe interested in the topic of inclusive education.
Thematic diversity of inclusive education in the focus
The EASPD Annual Conference, opened by Franz Wolfmayr, President of EASPD, approached different themes such as the “State of play of inclusive education in Europe”, the UNCRPD and the concepts of Universal Design and Reasonable Accommodation, the NQF concept that is being developed in all over Europe as well as other legal aspects related to inclusive education. During the conference various projects were presented, among them: INVESTT, Pathways for Inclusion and the “Observatory of best practices for adults with learning disabilities". incluD-ed presents its advocacy work for inclusive education
The European Network on Inclusive Education and Disability participated in the concluding policy panel on “How to move forward on inclusive education in Europe?” Carla Bonino, Transnational Cooperation Coordinator, European Affairs Unit, Fundación ONCE, presented the incluD-ed network, specifically its latest policy actions including the Statement and Written Declaration on promoting inclusive education systems in Europe as means of supporting legislative actions towards a more inclusive Europe. She encouraged the participants present at the panel to contact their national MEPs to support the Written Declaration. Carla Bonino also spoke about the first results of the incluD-ed pilot study on quality factors of inclusive education in Europe as well as of the incluD-ed website as a place to exchange good practices on inclusive education.
Other participants of the panel were: Luk Zelderloo, Secretary General of EASPD, Donata Vivanti, Vice-president of the European Disability Forum and Dimitrios Nikolsky, Chair of the Committee of Experts on the rights of People with Disabilities of the Council of Europe.
EASPD reads its "Declaration on Inclusive Education"
The 2-day conference finished with the presentation of the "EASPD Declaration on Inclusive Education" by Bernadette Grosyeux, Chair of EASPD Standing Committee on Education.
incluD-ed achieved its objectives in participating at the EASPD Annual Conference and confirmed its thematic priorities as central for the inclusive education discussion.
