6th International Summit on the Teaching Profession (ISTP)
Thu, 03/03/2016 - Fri, 04/03/2016
The 6th International Summit on the Teaching Profession (ISTP) will be celebrated on 3-4 March 2016 in Berlin, Germany. Since its inaugural edition in 2011 in New York City, the ISTP has become an important forum for open and constructive exchange on effective teacher policies and practice. It assembles governments and teacher organisations from a number of high-performing and rapidly improving school systems, as certified by recent results of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).
The 2016 Summit is jointly organised by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany (KMK), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and Education International (EI), in cooperation with eight German private not-for-profit foundations.
The main theme of the 2016 ISTP will be “Teachers’ professional learning and growth: Creating the conditions to achieve quality teaching for excellent learning outcomes”. The thematic ISTP sessions will address the following questions:
- Drawing the lessons from previous Teaching Summits: what competencies – skills, knowledge and dispositions – do successful teachers require?
- Which policies help foster teachers’ competencies so that they are effectively prepared for teaching?
- Implementing policies which promote teachers’ professional learning and growth: what are the challenges and opportunities?
Pre- and post-summit activities aim to provide opportunities for international participants to learn more about the German education system and to get in contact with various education stakeholders.
The ISTP looks forward to welcoming ministers, union leaders, government officials, teaching professionals and education experts to Berlin.
