Activities
CSIE is a national charity that works to promote equality and eliminate discrimination in education. Founded in 1982, the Centre has been at the cutting edge of educational change for over 30 years. We produce a wide range of resources, provide training & consultancy and engage in lobbying & campaigning for more inclusive education.
Recent achievements include: publication of the "Index for inclusion: developing learning and participation in schools" (Booth & Ainscow, 2011, 3rd edition), translated into 40 languages; the collaborative production of a short film on effects of homophobic bullying, currently used in Ofsted inspector training; and active involvement in drafting Article 24 (Education) of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
CSIE’s Strategy 2013-16 identifies as key priorities the improvement of education for disabled and for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) children, young people and adults.
CSIE receives no regular funding; our income comes from sales of our resources & services and from charitable grants & donations. For more information please see www.csie.org.uk.
