Profile of Jan Dekelver
Jan Dekelver is working as research coordinator on Inclusion at the Thomas More University College in Geel and as affiliated researcher at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. He co-ordinates K-point, a research group working on the theme of ICT and Inclusion (www.k-point.be).
Jan Dekelver was awarded as “social engineer” by CERA, (http://www.cera-award.be/) a national organisation focusing on innovation in the social profit sector. Jan was scientific coordinator of the FP7 project (2008-2010) “Incluso”. Incluso delivered a proof of concept that social software can be used as a tool for social inclusion. Jan was already active partner in two other EU-projects working on the use of ICT for people with intellectual disabilities. He was project coordinator of a national project “ICT helps”: ICT helps brings together all kinds of assistive tools to support young people with disabilities in education.
Jan has a lot of international experience and was participating and managing European LLP and 7FP projects on ICT and Inclusion. Special interest in inclusion of people with (mental) disabilities, learning difficulties, marginalised people. Recent work is focused on inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities and youth at risk.
