Adept training day “Starting at college: what are deaf students’ needs?” in Stirling, Scotland UK

On the 23rd of March. The association of deaf education professionals and trainees ‘adept’ is holding a training day on the topic of “Starting at college: what are deaf students’ needs?” in Stirling, Scotland UK.
This day is designed to introduce college staff involved in assessment and student support to the wide ranging needs of deaf students. Adept discusses how staff can be trained to identify many of these needs, and how they can contact a network of providers to bring expertise into colleges to get ready to support a wider range of deaf students effectively. Thorough initial discussions with deaf students, and awareness of the specialist roles of support staff will mean that the students are better supported, more involved and better able to achieve at college.
This one-day course has been organised by adept Scotland, a group which aims to improve provision for deaf students in education.
Access at this event
As at least one of the presenters is deaf, the day will be interpreted between spoken English and British Sign Language. A portable loop is available. Electronic notetakers will be working to screen. What is adept Scotland?
It is a national sub group of the UK-wide adept Association of Deaf Education Professionals and Trainees). Formerly NATED Scotland (launched on Friday 4th December 2009 at the BRITE Centre, in Edinburgh). A wide range of people and sectors were represented, including schools, colleges and Deaf organisations, as well as people from other groups which have worked on similar issues, e.g. FACE and Deaf Students Working Group.
